Dress Code

Maldives is predominantly an Islamic nation and hence there are a few dressing tips to keep in mind. You would observe women having a head scarf or wearing a burqa as part of their traditions. The clothing at beaches is not as glossy as it seems in the magazines.

> Tourists are often advised to emulate the locals and enter the water in knee deep clothing.
> However, it’s not as stringent as it may seem as there are specific ‘bikini beaches’ just for tourist purposes.

Getting Around

> Most prominent ways to travel in the city is through Ferries.
You have to be careful though as ferries are not available on fridays. The ferry schedule should be checked regularly to avoid any inconvenience.

> You can also mix and match ferries with Speed Boats.
Sometimes ferries take a whole day to arrive next and if you don’t want to wait to explore the next destinations, it is suggested to take speed boats as they are more easily available and take less time.

In this case, it is better to plan your packing thoroughly in advance if you don’t want to spend extra.
> Its also advisable to carry dry bags to keep your valuables in as there is a lot of water travel. Insect repellants are also a must take item.

> The climate is usually warm and humid and Maldives has an onset of two monsoons - summer and winter.
> The winter monsoon also called ‘Iruvai’ is the best season to visit Maldives, starting October/November.
> The summer monsoon is called ‘Halhangu’ - July onwards,  is usually accompanied by rains and rough waters and may not be the best time to frolic the city.
